WINDSOR, Colo. -- A large tornado skipped through several northern Colorado towns on Thursday, destroying dozens of homes, flipping tractor-trailers and freight rail cars, and killing at least one person.
The National Weather Service said the tornado touched down just before noon near Platteville, about 50 miles north of Denver. Over the next hour, it moved northward past several towns along a 35-mile-long track toward Wyoming.

Officials are responding to numerous reports of possible tornado damage throughout Weld County between 11:30 p.m. and noon today.
• Two semi trucks rolled over on U.S. 85 near Colo. 60 as the Gilcrest area was under a tornado warning.
• A house and a barn have reportedly been hit near the intersections of Weld County Road 31 and 36 and Weld roads 31 and 30.
• Heavy damage is reported near U.S. 34 and Colo. 257, according police reports. The damage may have included the area where State Farm is located. Also, cars were reportedly off the road in that area.
• Power lines are down throughout Weld County, from Gilcrest to Windsor.
• Traffic along U.S. 34 Business in west Greeley has been diverted because of downed wires.
